Assisi and St. Francis’ Basilica tour by Mercedes limousine and professional English-speaking driver

The Experience

Dear guests, this excursion day trip has been programmed for all those travelers who wish to spend a day off among the most significant places of Italian Christianity, where St. FrancisPatron Saint of Italy, was born, lived, and in the name of Jesus, gave up to all his belongings, for a life made of austerity, poverty, and great sacrifices.

You will be picked up at 7.30 am by a professional English-speaking driver from our company, Rome-Limousines, at your hotel, residence, or any other place of your convenience and driven, in a comfortable Mercedes vehicle, to the Umbria region and the city of Assisi through breathtaking countryside.

The city of Assisi is a fairly small village surrounded by fantastic countryside, perfect for having a relaxing day, away from the crowds of our common noisy towns. As you approach the city, you will feel overwhelmed by the sense of peace and spirituality that it conveys.
The city was founded in Roman times, but its fame and importance date back to the Middle Ages of the municipality, and when in the 13th century the Basilica of St. Francis was built outside the city center, the town of Assisi had already been built using the pink and white local stones from the Subasio mountain.

Saint Francis died in 1226, and one year later, Pope Gregory IX gave an order to construct a church in memory of Francis. The first church to be built was the Inferior, then the Superior superimposed the first one. The church was consecrated in 1253 by Innocenzo IV, and the overall construction work ended in 1367. The greatest painters of the time were summoned to decorate the walls and the ceilings of the building. The sepulcher of San Francis in the crypt was discovered only in 1818, but the Saint had already been buried in the church in 1230 before the inauguration. The right location of the tomb has never been revealed to prevent the barbarians and pirates from stealing the holy remains.

Many other places are worth visiting, like the spot where Francis took off all his clothes and gave up all his belongings, dedicating all his life to Jesus.

Moreover, the church of St. Claire, the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels, and San Damiano.

You will see all these spots with passion, love, and great emotion.

We suggest wearing comfortable shoes and appropriate clothes for visiting churches, monuments, and museums.
